'The Elegance of Food' on show at New York's Chelsea Market

From Rome to New York to celebrate the indissoluble link between fashion and food: 'The elegance of food', a major exhibition curated by Bonizza Giordani Aragno and Stefano Dominella, CEO of the Gattinoni fashion label, will grace the Big Apple after its success at the Trajan Market Museum in Rome.

This dress from Giorgio Armani's 'Privé' collection will be on display

From 24th June to 4th July, the public will be able to admire the creations of iconic designers such as Giorgio Armani, Etro, Valentino, Gucci, Gattinoni, Salvatore Ferragamo, Moschino and Laura Biagiotti, as well as those of emerging  designers, at the Chelsea Market in the heart of Manhattan.

The exhibition is presented by the Italian Foreign Trade Agency (ICE) in collaboration with Unindustria, and will celebrate Italian style worldwide. Visitors will enjoy a visual route inspired by the interchange between fashion and food, between sustainability and energy: from Giorgio Armani's 'Privé' collection dress inspired by the bamboo plant, to the Etro creation which interprets the 'we are what we eat' slogan, featuring digitalised images of colourful Italian banquets, rich in seafood and pasta. Salvatore Ferragamo, always willing to use 'plain' materials such as cork, raffia and hemp, will showcase some of the shoes coming from its Foundation's historical archives.

"I've always been fascinated by the relationship between food and fashion," said Stefano Dominella, " the former nourishes the body while the latter stimulates imagination and self-expression."

"The exhibition is part of a special plan launched by the Italian government to promote the local fashion and food industries in the USA," explained the director of ICE New York, Maurizio Forte, "and for the first time in the USA it will offer a major opportunity to showcase the captivating link between two essential resources of our extraordinary Italian style."
