Canterbury sees opportunities in France as it signs deal with rugby team

Canterbury has signed a deal with Union Bordeaux Bègles (UBB), a leading French rugby union team, to be their new official equipment supplier.

As part of the agreement, the team will wear Canterbury for the next five years, including on-field and off-field ranges, from 1 July.

This is an important partnership for Canterbury, as UBB play in the Top 14, the first level of the country's professional league system, and will likely lead to new store openings in Bordeaux, France.

Simon Rowe, Head of Sports Marketing at Pentland Brands says, “We're delighted to welcome Union Bordeaux Bègles to our sponsored team portfolio.

“UBB are a thriving club in a traditional rugby heartland and as such will boost our portfolio of premier rugby players and teams. We’re especially excited about the opportunities this partnership can bring us in France.”

The rugby brand also announced a sponsorship deal with Rugby Canada earlier this year, boosting its credentials as a leading apparel provider. Canterbury is working on introducing Rugby Canada’s new brand to fans and helping it raise the profile of the sport in the country.

The brand is part of Pentland, which also owns Speedo, Berghaus and Ellesse.
