Charles Jeffrey Loverboy launches women’s collection with Matchesfashion.com

Charles Jeffrey Loverboy is launching his first ever dedicated womenswear collection in partnership with luxury e-tailer Matchesfashion.com.

The capsule collection, titled ‘AWRITE HEN…?’ and created exclusively for the online site, is made up of eighteen pieces which have been either reimagined for the female silhouette or left unchanged from the men’s collection. That is Charles Jeffrey’s style: oversized silhouettes, awkward shapes and decidedly gender fluid.

Also founder of an underground club night, the Glaswegian designer has been hailed for his ‘club kid couture’, which explores shapes, twists and knots in a display of ‘drunk tailoring' expertise.

He said of his first womenswear collection: “Since beginning this project I could see really clearly a group of women who it’s intended for – lots of different profiles but what really ties them together is that they’re real. Hardly any make-up, almost scrubbed skin. The women in my life have been wearing our collections since the beginning but it’s been a thrill to develop these pieces specifically with a woman in mind.”

To celebrate the launch, Jeffrey partnered with photographer and filmmaker Matt Lambert on a campaign which tells a darkly magical story told via the Scottish ‘waulking’ song tradition, where ancient folk songs are performed by women who rhythmically beat fabric against a table to soften it.

Jeffrey and Lambert created the campaign via references including Michael Lucid’s cult 1996 documentary, Dirty Girls, horror classic The Wicker Man and Disney’s Hocus Pocus.
