Cos heads to Miami Design Week with interactive installation

Fashion retailer Cos is gearing up to present during Miami Design Week in December. The presentation won’t be a fashion show as might be expected, but instead an interactive installation, created in partnership with London-based design duo Studio Swine.

Baptized ‘New Spring’, the installation was previously on display at Milan’s Salone del Mobile design fair and even won ‘Most Engaging Exhibition’ during Milan Design Week.

The first time the installation was presented, it was more industrial and used a minimum of resources. This time around, the sculpture will have a new look, while the interior of the exhibition will also be designed with a different approach.

For this exhibition, Japanese architect Azusa Murakami and British artist Alexander Groves from Studio Swine created the installation around a floral sculpture that will be installed at the Art Deco Temple House. The installation emits mist-filled ‘blossoms’ that disappear on contact with skin, but can be held by visitors wearing special gloves.

"When creating a work like this, one can only hope it lives on and reaches new audiences," said Studio Swine on bringing the installation to Miami. “The city and its incredible style have really stimulated our imagination during the implementation of this new edition, we look forward to sharing New Spring with those in Miami."

“New Spring, Miami, to me symbolizes exactly what we aim to do with our artist collaborations at Cos: create work that reaches as many people as possible and ignites long-lasting partnerships," said Karin Gustafsson, creative director of Cos.

“Alex and Azusa are such wonderful talents, we are so pleased to take this project to Miami beach.”
