Dutch couturier Mattijs van Bergen quits label, starts at London's Osman

Dutch couturier Mattijs van Bergen has been appointed as the new Head of Design at London-based label Osman, effective immediately. As a result, the designer will quit his eponymous womenswear label, which is headquartered in Amsterdam.

Van Bergen shared the news on Instagram, captioning: “After almost 10 years of building my label Mattijs van Bergen, I am moving in a new direction. And while I write it [the statement] down, I feel new energy.”

About his new adventure at Osman, he added: “As head of the design department at Osman, I can use my design experience and work with a team on beautiful extensive collections. I need that focus. That gives me wings, and the jitters. Osman in London came on my path at the right time. The designs and culture suit me. The colours. The female forms. But especially the people, the ambition level and the environment.”

The Dutch designer also thanked his clients, supporters, ambassadors and team in his Instagram post.

Mattijs van Bergen started his label ten years ago following an MA in Fashion Design at Central Saint Martins in London and a BA from Artez Institute of Fine Arts in Arnhem, the Netherlands.

Mattijs was carried at popular department stores around the globe, including Browns Focus London and Luisa Via Roma.

In 2012, van Bergen was awarded with the Mercedes Benz Dutch Fashion Award. The brand was also popular under Dutch prominent people, including Queen Maxima of the Netherlands.

After commercial failure in 2015, he started anew a few months after under the name Mattijs van Bergen. The label also operated a conscious line, named 'Matter', in which the designer created sustainable, and limited-edition collections, produced in Europe.
