After the New York Department of Sanitation, Heron Preston has collaborated with another public agency for a new capsule with NASA celebrating the organization's 60th anniversary.

Heron Preston x NASA high tech parka ($1,895) - Ssense

The collection has been described by Ssense as "streetwear for outer space," and pays commemorates NASA's foundation in 1958.

The capsule includes a high-tech parka, hoodies, short and long-sleeve tees, sweatpants, hats and socks. Materials include satin with bungee-style drawstrings and embroidered flag appliques with bonding details. Perhaps predictably, considering Heron Preston's design partner, the color palette is predominantly red, white, and blue, but also features black with orange accents.

This is Heron Preston's second collaboration with a public agency. In 2016 the designer collaborated with New York's Department of Sanitation on a zero-waste themed apparel and accessories collection after he was spurred into action by a plastic bag that brushed against his arm when he was swimming in the ocean.

The NASA collaboration is similarly inspired by waste, this time in space. Aside from celebrating the organization's 60th anniversary, the collection also seeks to raise awareness about NASA's Orbital Debris Program which, launched following the publication of a 1978 research paper on the subject, researches and tracks man-made debris orbiting Earth. There are an estimated half a million pieces of man-made debris currently in space, including broken satellites and tool bags.

Heron Preston x NASA price points range from a $325 cotton tee, to a $555 hoody, and a $1,900 high-tech parka. The parka is currently sold out.
