New Canada Goose London flagship hit by moped raiders

Canada Goose’ new London flagship store was raided by burglars on Tuesday night just days after its launch.

The luxury clothing store was raided by a gang of ten people riding five scooters, who used the vehicles to break into the store by smashing the glass door. According to reports, the thieves made off with coats worth thousands of pounds after threatening a night security guard with a hammer.

Canada Goose opened the Regent Street store at the weekend, celebrating the luxury brand’s first location in Europe. The boutique stocks high-end outerwear which can cost up to £1,600.

The incident follows a similar raid at the nearby Apple store this week. According to police, ten suspects on five scooters smashed through Apple’s shop front on Monday, making off with laptops and iPads worth thousands of pounds.

Jeweller Mappin & Webb’s Regent Street store was also targeted by a group of raiders on mopeds in October.

Central London destinations such as Oxford Street, Bond Street and Regent Street are lined with hundreds of high-end traders, including several flagships and department stores.

The events come as the number of crimes involving scooters continues to rise, with 11,000 more incidents of this kind between June 2016 and 2017 compared to the previous year.
