July 19 (Reuters) - Nike Inc (NKE.N) on Monday named company veteran Craig Cheek as vice president and general manager of its greater China business, putting him in charge of one of the businesses the company wants to double by 2015.

Cheek had held the same post for North America for the world's largest athletic shoe and apparel maker. He will be replaced in that post by Elliott Hill, who has been vice president of global retail.

Cheek replaces Willem Haitink, who will become vice president and general manager of the company's Converse business in Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Nike shares closed down 31 cents at $68.61 on Monday on the New York Stock Exchange.

In May, Nike said it expected global sales to rise more than 40 percent to $27 billion by 2015 and named China as one of the businesses where sales were expected to double.
