Belstaff to withdraw from Japanese market

Published
Apr 30, 2019

The British luxury brand Belstaff will withdraw from Japan and close its six stores in the country at the end of July this year. The business will then dissolve its Japanese subsidiary in September 2019.

From Belstaff’s website

Belstaff’s Japanese business Belstaff Japan K.K was established in 2015 as a 100 percent owned subsidiary of the British business. The fashion advertising business The Goal Inc has been responsible for Belstaff’s Japanese leasing and public relations. However, the brand is now concentrating its management in the UK where its head office is based and will thus be closing down its Japanese subsidiary.

Following the dissolution of Belstaff Japan, Belstaff Japan K.K will no longer be responsible for direct sales and distribution in the country. However, some local Japanese retailers will continue to sell the brand in the country directly from its UK headquarters.

Apart from its Munich store in Germany, which is under refurbishment, Belstaff has already stopped its international retail expansion of flagship stores and outlets. The brand is focusing on developing its wholesale distribution channel in Italy and wholesale retail and e-commerce in the US.

Belstaff opened its first Japanese store in March 2016 and accompanied the launch with a two week-long men’s pop-up store. Belstaff opened its first flagship store in Japan in Tokyo’s Ginza Six in April 2017.
