CFDA unveils preliminary schedule for NYFW

Published
Dec 19, 2018

The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) has revealed the preliminary programs for New York Fashion Week: Men’s and Women’s Fall/Winter 2019, which will run successively from February 4 through 13, 2019.

New York Fashion Week: Men’s will start proceedings with a three-day program, before womenswear takes over on February 7. The two calendars will be bridged by a coed show from Tom Ford, which is slated for Wednesday, February 6 at 8:00 pm.

The runway presentation marks Ford’s return to New York’s menswear calendar, where the brand will join newcomers including South Africa’s Lukhanyo Mdingi, Los Angeles’ No Sesso and Keenkee, based in New York and South Korea.

After a spell in Paris and Madrid, Palomo Spain will also be returning to the Big Apple with a show scheduled for Monday, February 4, an opening day that draws to a close with runways from Joseph Abboud and Todd Snyder.

Ralph Lauren will fire the starting pistol for the womenswear calendar with a show at 10:00 am on Thursday, February 7, kicking off a schedule that ends with Marc Jacobs on Wednesday, February 13.

While Parisian luxury leather goods house Longchamp will be picking up where it left off with its New York debut last season, hosting a show on Saturday, February 9, there are also some conspicuous gaps in the womenswear calendar for Fall/Winter 2019.

Victoria Beckham, who moved her show to London last season in order to celebrate the 10th anniversary of her brand, will not be coming back to NYC in February, nor will Escada, which showed the debut collection of new creative director Niall Sloan in the city in September.

Another notable absence from the schedule is Rodarte, which returned to NYFW last season after a stint presenting in Paris, and has already announced that it will be taking its Fall 2019 collection to LA.

There is, however, still plenty to be looking out for: Elie Tahari, for example, will be celebrating both its 45th anniversary and its return to NYFW on Thursday, February 7, while Friday, February 8, will see the New York debut of Italian streetwear brand Palm Angels, from the stables of Off-White parent company New Guards Group (NGG).
