Burberry has appointed Alexandra McCauley as its Chief People Officer, effective 15 November.

McCauley, who joins from luxury fashion brand Chanel, will be responsible for all aspects of Burberry’s People strategy globally. It’s a key role and will see her joining the luxury fashion house’s Executive Committee as well as reporting directly to Burberry CEO Jonathan Akeroyd.

Based in London, before Chanel, where McCauley is currently Head of Global Diversity and Inclusion and Global People Communications and Engagement, she previously held senior HR and labour relations roles at NBC Universal. She began her career as a labour and employment lawyer in New York.

Akeroyd said: “Alex has a wealth of experience in building human and inclusive cultures within creative businesses, and she has a passion for helping people and organisations achieve their highest potential. I am looking forward to working with her to drive our strategy forward and realise our ambitions in this next phase.”

She joins another key appointment this month with Klaus Bierbrauer becoming Chief Supply Chain and Industrial Officer. He also has a seat on the executive committee.

Last week, Burberry’s preliminary FY23 results for the year to 1 April saw continued growth with Akeroyd calling it “a strong financial performance, supported by good progress in our core leather goods and outerwear categories with revenue accelerating in the fourth quarter”.
