The Copenhagen Fashion Week, already regarded as the leading Scandinavian fashion event, wants to grow even further. The mission of boosting the Danish capital’s reputation in the world of fashion has now been entrusted to Cecilie Thorsmark, who was recently appointed CEO of the organisation that runs the Copenhagen week. It is a comeback for Thorsmark, who was formerly in charge of media relations for the biennial event.

She will start in her new role on November 1, succeeding Camilla Frank, who took over from Eva Kruse in 2016. Kruse herself had poached Cecilie Thorsmark, putting her in charge of communication for the last few years at the organisation founded by Kruse, the Global Fashion Agenda, organiser of the Copenhagen Summit on sustainable development in fashion. The same Global Fashion Agenda which recently signed an agreement with the French Fashion Institute (IFM) to promote a circular economy approach in the fashion industry.

Cecilie Thorsmark has an in-depth knowledge of the world of fashion in Denmark and beyond, considering the international reach of the Copenhagen Summit and of the Global Fashion Agenda. A graduate of the Copenhagen Business School, Thorsmark will be exploiting her industry connections to increase the standing and broaden the scope of the Danish fashion week, which slots into the fashion calendar in August and at the end of January. Its next edition is scheduled from January 29 to February 1 2019.

"I’m delighted to be back with the Copenhagen Fashion Week, and I’m eager to take on the huge challenge on making it larger, stronger and more enduring. I think [the Copenhagen Fashion Week] has an even greater potential, and I plan to work, for example, on extending the Fashion Week’s involvement in sustainability and creating an international platform with Scandinavian fashion as its engine,” said the future CEO.
