Furla names Mauro Sabatini as new CEO

Published
Jan 26, 2021

Furla is reorganizing its top management. The company's current chief executive officer, Alberto Camerlengo, who was promoted to this role in 2017, is becoming executive president of the board, while Mauro Sabatini, an 18-year partner of the Italian leather goods brand, has been named as his successor as CEO.

Mauro Sabatini - Furla

Sabatini is the founder and former CEO of Effeuno Srl, a Tuscan company specialized in the production of leather accessories. A longstanding supplier of Furla, the manufacturer was acquired by the Bologna-based leather brand in 2018.

Over the last few years, Sabatini has also worked at other luxury brands, having first served as a consultant at Lancel, when the brand was still owned by the Richemont group, and then at Dunhill, another label in the Swiss conglomerate's portfolio. Previously, he worked for New York-based brand Elie Tahari, as well as for Furla, where he served as VP for sourcing from 2011 to 2013.

"As a manager, he has acquired an in-depth knowledge of the supply chain. As a successful businessman, he possesses an in-depth understanding of international markets," explained Furla in a release. His appointment comes as the company prepares to open a new production site in Tuscany.

The reorganization of Furla's top management is part of a wider relaunch strategy being implemented at the company, which was strongly affected by the crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. At the end of 2020, the accessible luxury brand's American subsidiary was forced to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Furla USA has already presented a reorganization plan to the Court of New York, which will rule on the dossier on January 28.
