Hood by Air to go on hiatus

The label, known for its subversive, raunchy designs blurring the boundaries between streetwear and luxury, is ceasing operations immediately. Co-founders Shayne Oliver and Leilah Weinraub will focus on their separate activities.

"Weinraub is currently developing her film and directorial career with her upcoming project ‘Shakedown,’ included in the Whitney Biennial in May,” the brand stated in a release.

Oliver, recently recruited as the first designer in for a selection of collaborative capsules at Helmut Lang “will be devoting himself in the immediate future to his responsibilities” at the Link Theory Holdings-owned label, where his capsule is slated for a September 2017 release.

However, it is not necessarily the end of the road for the label just yet: "HBA will continue to fulfill its creative vision in the near future," the company added.

The first sign of trouble at HBA arrived with the shock cancellation of their March 2017 show at Paris Fashion Week. The brand cited unforeseen circumstances, but nevertheless acknowledged Oliver’s new preoccupation: “Shayne is currently focusing his time on the special project with Helmut Lang,” a representative said at the time. “As a result, HBA will be continued but is transitioning to accommodate this.”
