Hot Topic May same-store sales falls 9 percent

June 2 (Reuters) - Teen apparel retailer Hot Topic Inc (HOTT.O) posted a bigger-than-expected nine percent fall in May sales at stores open at least a year.

Analysts on average expected the company, which sells rock n' roll-inspired apparel and accessories as well as music, to post a fall of 8.3 percent in May same-store sales, according to Thomson Reuters data.

For the four weeks ended May 29, total net sales fell 7.4 percent to $42.6 million.

Shares of California-based Hot Topic were flat at $5.38 after the bell Wednesday 2 June on Nasdaq. (Reporting by Mihir Dalal in Bangalore; Editing by Prem Udayabhanu)
