Johnstons of Elgin to open flagship store in Edinburgh

Cashmere brand Johnstons of Elgin is to open a new flagship store in Edinburgh’s luxury shopping quarter on Multrees Walk in spring 2019.

Rubbing shoulders with other high-end names including Burberry, Mulberry and Louis Vuitton, the 2,000-square-foot space will occupy two floors and launch with Johnstons of Elgin’s Spring/Summer 2019 collection.

The Scottish brand’s womenswear and menswear collections, include fine woollens and tweeds, will be presented alongside the home interior and fabric ranges.

Established over 200 years ago, the knitwear manufacturer has also a flagship store on London’s Now Bond Street and retail spaces in Elgin, St Andrews, Hawick and Nantucket, US.

"Looking ahead to 2019 with strong growth behind us, this Edinburgh flagship store is another stepping stone in cementing the Johnstons of Elgin legacy through retail,” commented George McNeil, managing director of the retail division.

“Our new retail experience in Multrees Walk will offer a unique customer experience which draws inspiration from our manufacturing roots. It will target the domestic Edinburgh market whilst welcoming international visitors to Scotland’s capital."

In February, Johnstons of Elgin staged a fashion show at London Fashion Week for the first time in its history in an effort to get in front of more international buyers. International demand for the cashmere jumpers, particularly in the Middle East, helped it post a 59% increase in profits last year, while sales grew 7% to £73m.
