Safilo names Stephen Wright as chief commercial officer for North America

Safilo has tapped eyewear veteran Stephen Wright as the new chief commercial officer for North America. Wright comes to his new role after serving in a series of leadership roles of increasing responsibility with VSP.

Wright brings North America-specific experience, having served most recently as president at VSP Global Omni-Channel Solutions. He previously held several positions with VSP Global and has also been president for Altair Eyewear and senior vice president of the Americas for Marchon Eyewear.

"The US is a historical market for Safilo and we were intent on selecting a leader with a deep knowledge of the specific market needs, able to work hand in hand with all of our different customers,” said Angelo Trocchia, CEO of Safilo Group in a statement.

Trocchia added that Safilo wants "to be closer and closer to the market, to better understand what is truly relevant for our local consumers, capitalizing more on our strong brand portfolio and on our independent business approach.”

Safilo's North America market is poised for expansion in the next year. The company recently launched Rag & Bone eyewear, and has announced plans to roll out Rebecca Minkoff sunglasses in retail stores this October. A second phase of the Minkoff line will launch with ophthalmic and sunwear collections in January 2019.

Wright's appointment is effective June 19th. He will replace Henri Blomqvist who held the role for two years and is leaving Safilo.
