Tanya Taylor takes over CFDA Retail Lab

Published
Apr 25, 2017

Toronto-born designer Tanya Taylor is the latest to take over the CFDA Retail Lab at 330 Hudson Street in New York City. Taylor is the fourth designer to occupy the Retail Lab, following Public School, Cushnie et Ochs and Timo Weiland. The CFDA named Taylor as one of the designers to take over the Retail Lab, alongside Prabal Gurung and Pamela Love.

The colorful shop, which serves as Taylor’s first retail location, features pink and purple swirling wallpaper and floral counters that complement the designer’s radiant and playful spring collection. In addition, the mannequins in the center of the room stand on dyed sand in colored boxes, nodding to Taylor’s spring 2017 presentation at Spring Studios during New York Fashion Week.

“It is exciting being able to build a brick-and-mortar world to tell the story of our Spring-Summer 17 collection,” said Taylor. “But most importantly, [the most exciting aspect of having a store location is] having our first physical space to interact with our customers, learn more about what they are looking for and strengthen our brand recognition in a new neighborhood.”

Taylor hopes to learn more about her customer with the new store and discover what her customer is looking for in a retail experience. The designer also announced in an interview that she will launch her first plus-size collection in June.

Tanya Taylor launched her eponymous collection at 2012 after studying at Central Saint Martins and The Parsons New School of Design. She was recognized by the CFDA as one of the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalists in 2014, and she was named the International Woolmark Prize USA womenswear winner for the 2015/16 season.
