Timberland unveils eco collection that also benefits Haitians

Published
Mar 8, 2017

Timberland is the latest brand to look to sustainability, launching an apparel, accessories, and footwear line made from recycled plastic bottles. The collaboration is a partnership with recycled fiber company Thread.

The sustainability doesn’t just stop at the recycled fabrics – all the bottles used in the PET fabric are collected off the streets of Haiti by over 1,300 community members, creating vital jobs for the local community. Every part of the production process is completely traceable.

Colleen Vien, director of sustainability for Timberland told the press, "The Timberland X Thread collection is incredible proof that style and sustainability can go hand-in-hand. This collection delivers good with every fiber, not just by recycling plastic bottles that would otherwise end up littering the streets, but also by creating job opportunities and cleaner neighborhoods in Haiti.”

The collection will include five different footwear styles, two bags, and a t-shirt, all made utilizing Thread’s 50% recycled PET fabric. In addition, the outsole of the five footwear styles are made from 15% recycled rubber. The t-shirts are made from 50% recycled PET fabric and 50% reclaimed cotton.

This is the brand's second sustainable collaboration with Threads. The first was launched in June of 2016.
